Hey guys, hopefully someone can help me with this prob as it's driving me nuts!! lol, everytime i go to watch a video on my computer a box pops up saying either "windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to close" or "dr watson postmortem debugger has encountered an error and needs to close" and when i click the box off it freezes my computer up. Ive had this prob for about a week and it happens with all the players i use, VLC, Divx etc. It's real annoying, i don't think it's a virus as i've got anti virus software and it hasn't picked up anything, but i have no idea why it's doing this. Any ideas on what might be causing it and how to fix it? i'd be most grateful if someone can help, thanks :)

The best way to troubleshoot video errors such as this would be to uninstall ALL video codecs and players and reinstall then from scratch. Make sure to do a reboot between uninstalls.

Corrupted Codecs can causes unexpected bugs within a program, it is very annoying indeed.

The best Codec pack I have come across has been the K-lite Mega Codec Pack. Which will have everything you need in it.

If this does not solve your problem, move onto the GPU drivers. Check with your manufacturer for updates Graphics drivers, this can also resolve issues with video playback. As most video cards have some sort of MPEG/MPEG2 or H.264 video decompression accelerator. Especially the nVidia GPu's.

I hope that helps.

Might be lacking memory, do this to get gigs back >

disk cleanup

more options tab

delete system restore points...this process takes time so wait until the ok button becomes active again after pressing the delete button, the last restore point is saved so no worries.

Secondly run ccleaner.

its at the top of this page....always run ccleaner straight after uninstalling programs or when a program fails to install half way
