Last night I turned off the computer and pulled my Ram to get the details off it so I can buy more. After putting it all back together and turning on the computer, I get no HDMI output to my TV from the computer. Thinking it was the cable, I plugged it into the laptop and it works just fine I checked and made sure that the RAM is in securely and properly. I am just completely confused.

Make sure the video card is securely pressed into the slot.

1.Connect TV and laptop with HDMI cable first2.

2.Turn on TV.Laptop should be off at this mpment

3.Turn laptop On.On starting self-up check laptop will see video input.Press keys Fn + F8 at the same time.

Laptop video signal will be switched to HDMI output port.

the MOST important thing,

do NOT switch on/off the power erratically on a blank screen by pressing and holding the power button for more than 5 seconds.. forcing the shut down by pressing the power button for more than 5 seconds, can create a whole new set of troubles; it may damage important sectors on the hard disk, and you'd end up formatting and reinstalling windows on your C drive..

switching on and off the power erratically can cause the operating system to activate repair tools that the next reset would damage certain vital data on C: drive, that you'd end up reinstalling windows..

also.. do NOT press the reset button erratically, as it can cause similar damage..

if you want to shut down the computer in a blank screen, press the power button once, and let the PC takes its time to shut down properly..

`

now..

the obvious advice is to re-check and trace-back your steps when you first removed the RAM..

make sure that the Graphic Card (if you have one) is secured into the motherboard and that you did not accidently mess-up its connections.. even with the RAM taken out, you should at least get something on the monitor unless the Graphic Card was not installed properly or partly unplugged..

`

everytime you make such an adjustments on the motherboard,

the BIOS temporarily goes back to certain default settings; one of which is using the VGA connection (the classic display cable connection) instead of HDMI..

so if you have an old VGA monitor with VGA connections, it would be a good idea to connect the computer via VGA cable to that monitor while you are connected to the TV via HDMI..

if you also have a blank screen on the VGA monitor, it means something is definitely wrong on the motherboard.. something is not connected, something was dislodged, and hopefully you did not break anything..

go back, open up the computer and trace back your steps..

but if you get a picture on the VGA monitor,

and once you enter Windows, you can change the primary display from VGA to HDMI.. and hopefully that would solve the issue..

also, it is worth to note that some modern day TVs also have VGA connections in its back..

at this very moment, my desktop computer is connected to the same Sony TV using both HDMI and VGA connection.. hopefully your TV has them too..

but if you do not have a VGA monitor nor your TV has a VGA connection, we will have to try solving this in complete blindness.. and the best way to do this, is to let the computer load up Windows in complete blackout..

so connect the computer to HDMI, and switch ON the PC and leave it be..

give it a good 5 minutes with you doing nothing to it, except tapping on the Shift key on the keyboard every 1 minute to prevent the system going to sleep or to hibernation.. just quick taps, no holding the Shift key..

hopefully, Windows would realize that there are no cables connected to VGA, so it will reset the display to HDMI but this takes time.. again.. 5 minutes is more than enough..

after waiting 5 minutes staring at the blank screen,

if you have a log-in password to you computer, tap on 'Enter' and key-in your password to enter Windows.. but if you do not have password log-in to your computer, ignore this step..

hopefully you are now inside Windows.. give it a minute or 2, to allow windows to boot as normal..

my theory is that maybe Windows has not realized yet that you are not using the VGA connection - sometimes Windows are dumb in that way..

you can force windows to switch to HDMI by following the series of key strokes:

1- press & hold the Windows key on the keyboard and tap on 'P'.. (Win +P)

the first step opens up the display options in Windows 10 (also windows 8)..

2- with you still holding the Windows key, tap on 'P' for the second time..

3- press enter..

hopefully this would solve the problem..

you can go to the Settings/Control Panel to resolve any resolution issues..

if ALL fails,

i am afraid, you need to seek professional help.. sorry..

`

and FINALLY..

you do NOT have to open up the motherboard, and unplug the component(s) to see their types..

there are a number of software that can sniff out these details for you..

one of which is CPU-Z from https://www.cpuid.com/ ..

it is free, and it should tell you all you need to know about the motherboard and its components, the RAM, the brand and make of the RAM (under the SPD tab at the memory slot selection), how much watt each component consume and all the good stuff that you need to know before any upgrade..

all the best..

Re check your PC or the HDMI has to wait a lil before it can fully "connect"
