The only difference is that safe removal will force completion of any data transfers in progress at the time. As long as the data has completed it will do no harm removing it without using safe removal. Always wait a minute after copying or moving files before you take it out.

I do not have that problem with my flash drives (not Maxtor). Just check to see that it does not show up in computer after you eject it. If it is gone you are good to go. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Check the task manager for applications that might be communicating with your flash drive.

To open the task manager you can right-click on the task bar and task manager will be listed.

[The task-bar is the strip with the windows button on the left and the clock on the right, usually along the bottom]

Or use the vulcan death grip [ctrl+alt+del] and choose the task manager from the shortcuts.

Very important, if the vulcan death grip doesn't respond immediately do not retry, leave it for a minute or two.

Even when the light is still on, it doesnt mean that it's un-safe to remove. Go ahead and take it out, as long as you have your things saved, it'll be OK.
