I installed a Compusa 4 channel sound card PCI 32bit in my E-machines T2042 when my onboard sound suddenly stopped working. the sound coming out of the speakers is so scratchy that I haven't been able to use them at all. I have tried using other speakers but nothing helps. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers, tried installing the card in different PCI slots, but nothing helps. Does anyone have any suggestions to help me?

Have you disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS?

Keep looking, there has to be a disable option somewhere in the BIOS.

Alternatively, you can look in the control panel under system and open the device manager.

You should see under sound, video and game controllers two devices for sound. Your new card will probably have a red x or yellow exclamation point on it.

Left click on the onboard sound chip and choose disable it.

Left click on your new card and choose properties, enable it.

Reboot the computer and see if your problem is solved.

YOU SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED: "while running more than one application..." so, instead of going straight to your hardware technician, check to see if your CPU load is getting high (say around 90 to 95 %). To do this, right click on the taskbar and click on Task Manager. then click on the 'Performance' tab on the top of the dialog box. If you notice CPU usage peaking at more than 95 % while using more than one application, then RELAX! This isn't at all an issue. Instead check to see if your computer is infected with virus which is overloading your CPU.
