Question:
Motherboard BIOS Beeps?

I have encountered a display problem where my monitor shows nothing on bootup (amber light on instead of green).

Along with the blank screen, my system emits a long beep and a quick beep. Does this mean I have to buy a new graphics card (just to confirm)?

Possibly not. First things first: Take your graphics card out of the slot, then if you have a can of compressed air, blow any dust out of the slot it was in (It's a good idea to clean all the dust out of the computer while you're at it) Do it outside!

After that, insert the card back in firmly, without forcing anything, and try it.

If that doesn't work, you may be out one graphics card. See if there's an obvious model number on the motherboard somewhere. It's usually etched in. Once you find that, look it up on google. Er. Yahoo. And see if you can find a manual. The motherboard manual will tell you what the beeps mean, since it could be other problems causing this.

The only sure way is to exchange the card with a card you know is good, and see if that fixes it.

take your graphics card out and look at all the diods. if thers signs of currosion on any of them, it needs replacing. if there isnt blow into the slot on the motherboard and put it back, if the problem persists get a new graphics card. there relitivly cheap. depending on what king you want.

cheap sites and reliable as i have bought many things from these.

that could be soooo many things

1. did you try doing anything unusual lately, like trying to overclock, or update the bios?

2. sounds dumb but did any cables get knocked loose?

3. are any cables damaged?

based on the info you gave there really isnt enough info to really diagnose your problem, unless you get lucky and find someone who has the EXACT same problem.

but you should get a pro to check it out cause it would suck to buy a new card and get the same problem afterwards. never buy anything until you know excatly whats wrong

Not necessarily. Do you not get ANY display at all? Not even a brief screen that will allow you to get into the BIOS?

If you can get into the BIOS, try resetting to factory defaults.

If not, try open up the tower and re-seat the vid card. (make sure you ground yourself before opening the tower).

If no go, you are most likely right in getting a new card.

Good luck.

No it does not, it does that when something on your motherboard is not working with the system, the beeps indicate that, (check your motherboard manual o identify what that sequence of beeps mean), whatever you last changed in your hardware could be the problem or something on your motherboard is failing, test the graphics card in another computer to make sure it isn't the problem first.

it could be a number of things.

do you know the model of the BIOS? if you have that, do a search for it..typing something like "JJJ Motherboard Bios BEEP code" and the beeps emitted should have a glossary to tell you what is ailing the computer.

also it could be a power supply going bad too.

you gotta check your motherboard manual, there it will tell you what the beeps mean. Some beeps they just exist to tell you that everything is fine. but consult your manual or check your bios to be sure that nothing is wrong.

A problem could range to alot of things, not only graphics card, but cpu, memory, hard disk, or motherboard.

This might be your RAM, check if it's still in there.

and, a solution i found was taking out the battery and the ram for a minute or so, place it back in. hope that helps.
