What will happen if I turn on my pc with no hard drive?

If it is a linux live cd, you can boot right into a linux operating system, but as mentioned, it runs kinda slow.

But it'll be really slow (because CDs are slow) and it won't be able to do much since it won't have a hard drive for the OS to use for temporary storage.

Well you can run the computer and go to the bios but it will not start windows. Althought you can run a linux or a unix if you use a live cd version, I reccomend you to download puppy linux, its the most powerful version that I have used, it may even help ypu to rescue some of your files.
