I have a creative thumbdrive 512Mb USB pen drive. I am running Windows XP .When I plug it in, the system detects it and a small icon is shown at the bottom right corner of the screen.
But I am not able to see it in 'My computer'.
I tried to format it by
Rt. click on My Computer -> Manage -> Storage -> Disk management
But it shows a message that
"Unable to format because the partition or volume is not enabled. To enable it restart your computer"
I restarted my computer and tried this again and again. But no luck
Please give me a solution

First go to computer and you should see it there. If it is not there open the program you need and click on the button where you can choose the location. You should see either Removable Disk E,Removable Disk D, Removable Disk F. If one of the following is not there click on Removable Disk with another letter beside E,D,F. If this doesn't work check wether there is a small svitch on the bottom of your USB drive. If there is one push it in another direction. If all of the above don't work your USB drive must be broken. In this case you should buy a new one because it is cheaper to buy a new one than to have the old one repared. Actually I think it can't be repared. But if it can be you will lose all you data because they will have to change the chip.

OK, if you have a friend who knows Linux (Windows sux with file systems on flash memory devices) at the command line the mkfs command will make a new file system on the drive. You probably want a FAT32 file system. There is probably a Linux User's Group (LUG) in your closest city, and one of the members would probably do it for coffee or beer. Linux people are just like that. Otherwise just get a new drive. Windows is sorely lacking in this area.

If you want to buy a 16gb pen drive, buy ADATA UV10. Because 1. It gives you a 15.1gb usuable space(the highest in its category). 2. It also gives you a lifetime warranty. 3. The transfer speed is 15MB/s(avg.). The maximum speed that I have got till now is 25MB/s. I recommend this as I personally am using this pen drive and I am very happy with it.

Try the same thing in the another system and see it works well and good or replace the pen drive with a new one.

a) if u are connecting pen drive to front side of the CPU then try to connect it back side of the CPU, that may work

b) also check this pen drive to someone else's computer, if it is working or not

I have found USB port related problems in VIA chipset (Motherboard), but in Intel chipset it works ok.

If none of the above work, dip the thumbdrive into a jar of peanut butter and then spread on a cracker. Enjoy!

you don't see your removable disk in MY Computer when you are on a network and some network drives are mapped to the same drive letters that your USB Disk is trying to use.

Try disconnecting Network Drive and then see the results..

Could be write protected. Does it have a little switch on it? If it does, try putting the switch into the "other" position and try again.
