Windows explorer consistently crashing on Vista?

My desktop has had inumerous problems which would take eons for me to list. One of the more recent ones is whenever I'd try to open a folder, Explorer would crash, and it would do so until I restarted the computer.

So when I restart the computer, it would fail to start. I would then have to insert the repair disk and repair it, after which it'd restart and do a chkdsk to clear bad clusters. It used to crash A TON due to bad clusers (blue screen of death) but I haven't seen that pop up in a long time.

After my most recent episode of reparing and replacing clusters, windows explorer now wont even run. After boot up, it'll say "windows explorer has stopped working" then it'll tell me to restart. After it restarts, it immediately stops working again. I can't even open My Computer anymore because it'll do the same thing. IT's an endless cycle, even when I end it up from task manager and manually reinstall it. My computer has some terrible issues, but this has got to me the most frustrating. Before it was a time bomb waiting to crash, and now it wont even work.

What are my solutions?

It sounds like explorer is broken. Youll need to reinstall windows. Thats the easiest way.

I had the same problem. I downloaded firefox and never looked back. Firefox flies on vista. Be sure to download the plugins you need. www.mozilla.com.

Also, in the rare event that firefox crashes, it will restore you tabs and it bounces back quickly.
