That sounds weird. Going from 2.6 to 1.3 and 512 to 384.

If no one touched the physical components inside your computer then check your BIOS settings. It could be misconfigured. You can access your BIOS by hitting either F1, DEL, F2, or F10 when you first switch on your computer and see the manufacturers logo (it will also tell you which button you need to press. Once in the BIOS, there is always a key or option there to "Reset to Factory Defaults". Do that, save and exit. See if your ghz and ram changes.

Your BIOS (binary input output system) is a program on your main board that allows you to manually reset or overclock your cpu, memory etc. It also allows for many other adjustments. DO NOT change any settings in your BIOS unless you know exactly what you are doing. I guarantee you that your computer will not even start, and you could very well burn up one or more components. Learning system BIOS is a college course in itself.

Some programs that read system parameters are not accurate. Try downloading a program called Sandra by Si Soft. This program is made up of modules that tell you exactly what components make up your system and what speed they are running at.

If after running Sandra you find that your cpu is running at a much lower GHz then the most likely culprit is that your main board reset itself to its generic settings. That means that you (or someone) must go into BIOS and adjust the cpu multiplier and FSB (front side bus) frequency.

Sorry, there is no easy answer to your problem. Getting your computer to be all it can be w/o overclocking is a skill. Many times speed has little to do with a smooth running, fast computer. CPU, FSB and memory need to be tweaked so that their frequencies compliment each other while keeping them at or near their rated speed.

Install and learn how to use Linux, from what you just explained you just said your hardware magically transformed into different hardware. Ram would be the first step thats for sure, its fairly cheap and it makes a huge difference. Buy a second hard drive and have someone who knows what they are doing install it for you doing this will speed everything up because you can leave your system disk just for windows and the second hard disk for file storage like music and what not. You don't need to defrag once a week in fact I would highly suggest that you don't. Defragging is very hard on the hard disk and the read/write heads. Linux is the way to go though it works great for oldies like your machine.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some regsitry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Everytime you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Regisry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically! It even can speed up your computer by 300% or more!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Ok for one your comps ram and GH should not have dropped, that is abnormal, there might be a problem with your comp, but if it not then you can always replace the Ram cards with faster ones, and if your Processer is not atached to the mother board you might be able to upgrade that as well. and no i do not think there is a program that can make your comp faster hope this helps!

ch... idk buy a hard drive w/ more space. make sure u hav xp. otherwise maybe you have a virus causing the slowness, sometimes hidden at the kernel level, so do have stronger anti-virus software.
