I have a Dell Inspiron m5010 that I was trying to fix up. I finally replaced the hard drive with a brand new one. I installed the proper 64-bit windows, turn it on, works. HOWEVER, there are no drivers. So I went to the Dell website, download the drivers, etc. This is where I am stuck and need help. I added every driver that Dell listed for that laptop and downloaded them as prompted. Once completed, I went to the drivers folder where they were located and begun to click on them to install them (was this the proper way to do it?). Some drivers ended up working, like the sound driver and the graphics one as well. But I still don't have any wireless Internet connections and the touch pad still does not work. Thanks in advance for any help.

One time connection with an ethernet cable to the router and let Windows Update find & install the drivers.

I remember a Dell tech posting on here a while back (last two days?) mentioning that it was a good idea to use a wired connection when downloading drivers.

I know that a couple of programs that I have purchased insist that all updates be downoaded on a wired connection, too.

I just replaced a hard drive in August - it can take a while to get all the updates installed - especially when you are having to reboot the computer several times as it has to finish installing a given update (or batch of updates) while doing a restart. Windows 7 is pretty good about updating the drivers - although it may apply a few other updates first.

if you installed windows 7 then you have basic drivers, the simplest thing to do is to plug in a network cable and run windows update, windows is pretty good at picking up missing device drivers as well as its own. give it a go.

Wireless may be available from the makers webpage.

Same for the touch pad

My suggestion is to try all the drivers till one works.
