To me, it sounds like your OS is not XP and/or that your system needs a good clean up job.

Try this, it won't cost you $$$ but only your time.

Go to Yahoo search and download the free trial of Tuneup Utilities 2006, familiarize your self with it and let the program clean up your registry along with other things, like your disc, files, etc. And see if the problem went away. If not, then you will need to find the file and change its name.

Good luck

before defragging, scandisk checks the drive for it's structure, naming conventions, etc. some old operating systems permitted ridiculously long filenames or ones with commas or other characters; your machine won't accept this.

relax--one file with a long filename shouldn't have an impact on your machine. can your defragger still run? can you still surf the net? can you still get mail? if you need further help, check with your computer mfgr.

you have a filename longer than 32 characters long. you have to find it and rename it.

this usually happens to me when i dont shut down my PC properly ( i.e unplug or press power button until shut down is forced ) if this presests, you may have a serious virus on your hard ddrive.
