I have a question regarding ram.

Q: What is the differents between 1 Ram and 2 Ram of the same amount of size without enhancements like Dual Channel.
(Eg. 1X1024 Ram VS 2X512 Ram, Total size for both: 1024)

in case a mainboard has dual channel operation capability, 2 modules of the same size are faster than only one with the double size - but wait, this isn't what you're asking for.

if the mainboard isn't dual channel capable then it doesn't matter, except:

a) older mainboards weren't able to recognise a memory module of 1GB but 2 of 512MB

b) 2 modules of 512MB are probably cheaper than 1 single module of 1GB

c) the power consumption of a single 1GB module is slightly less than 2 modules of 512MB.

the difference in price:

newer technology (larger memory chips are always more expensive)

expandability (if you buy a computer with a 1GB module and want to upgrade, you haven't to replace one or both of the 512MB modules - btw, this is also an argument from sellers).

Any RAM will work in dual-channel mode; there is absolutely no such thing as Dual-Channel RAM, like TigerDirect keeps telling people. If you have a Skt. 754 based Sempron or Athlon64, though, make sure you buy a single stick of RAM. They don't do very well at all with two sticks, especially if you can't adjust your RAM voltage in the BIOS.

edit: The reason 2x512MB sticks are cheaper than 1x1GB stick has nothing to do with what it cost to produce the RAM. It has to do with the fact that people aren't buying 512MB sticks of RAM anymore. As an enticement, so they can get rid of what people seem not to be interested in, they are marking them down in price.

First there is not any way you have 504MB of RAM. you have 512MB in spite of the shown fact that it particularly is possibly a working laptop or computing gadget that makes use of equipment RAM to run the video which takes the countless 512 away. you could no longer get 8MB so which you may might desire to function yet another 512MB and finally end up with 1GB entire, much less in spite of the different appplication or video gadget is making use of. possibly extra undemanding just to function yet another 1GB stick, in case you have an available reminiscence slot and not challenge approximately it. you will stumble in this type of RAM you have by using going to HPs cyber web internet site and finding up the specifications, then you particularly can circulate on line or to suitable purchase and get the suitable reminiscence for that gadget
