Hi everyone!

Earlier this week I had to format my hard drive and re-install my OS (XP SP2) due to a virus I gave up trying to remove!

Since the format, my hard drive (assigned the letter C:) is showing as a removable disk. I've made sure I've installed all drivers and that they're up to date, but it's still showing as removable.

The hard disk works fine and I've not had any problems, but the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the system tray is bugging me! The option to remove it definately wasn't there before the format.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this please?

Also I do this way:

Go to Start > Run, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter. In the left column of the Graphical View where it states the Disk number, right-click the device > Properties > Policies Tab. Put a check mark in "Optimize for performance" and “Enable write…..”.

I think I may need to install the OS again *groan*! But as it all seems to be working ok, I think I might leave the format for another day....or year ;o)

Thanks again

When I install window I dont have an external device (USB) but I have USB Plug on motherboard. Also I assign the C: letter. for window boot

I suggest that all external devices and redo the install window again without pluging any USB rigght?

Please help me!!
Many thanks

its because its a sata disk which are designed to be hotswappable. if you want to remove the notification you can hide your unused notifications by right clicking the task bar. click properties, check "hide inactive icons" then click customize. find safely remove hardware and make sure its set to "always hide"

Between XP Disk Management and the computer's BIOS this can be straightened-out.

in case you have a USB stress plugged in, it ought to have the same stress letter as your C stress. pass into stress supervisor and reassign a clean stress letter on your USB stress. in any different case i've got no longer considered this previously.
