Hi

I just received my computer back from the engineer. Basically, when i turned it on the Packard Bell screen loaded fine but then it just switched to a black screen which had this error message, instead of booting Windows.

"PXE - E61: Media test failed, check cable.......
"PXE - MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
"DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

Now i only have the keyboard and mouse plugged in as far as third party hardware. I've tried going into the bios and changing the boot devices but it hasn't helped. Also the LCD lights that indicate things like DVD and TV mode aren't lit up and they aren't responding. Can anyone help? I phoned the shop and they said it was working fine for them

Please advice me if you can

Thanks :)

Did you recently open the case of the machine ?

Just open it again and check if the power cable and IDE or Hard drive data cables are correctly joined on both sides.

and also make sure machine is set to boot from hard drives first.

and if you still can not boot then try swapping hard drive from other disk.

Thanks

"Disk boot error" basically means that the operating system won't boot. There could have been an important file deleted, or the whole operating system could be missing. You need to send it back to the engineer, because they have more resources to fix it than you probably do. If you're a technical person, you might want to try to get a bootable copy of linux. Boot into it and look at your hard drive. You should be able to look at the hard drive and see all the folders and boot files like boot.ini, config.sys, and autoexec.bat. Bottom line, I hope you have some recent backups made because either you or the engineer are going to have to restore Windows.

Funky G may be right. It's definitely trying to boot from the network first. After that, it looks like it's trying to boot from the hard disk.

Two possibilities for this is either what Funky G said, or the hard disk cable within the computer may be unplugged. There's other possibilities too, but I think that those are the biggest two.

It means its trying to boot from the network.

Press Del or whatever key is set to get into the bois. Normally says as soon as you start to boot.

When in bios. find the boot order and change the order to something like.

CD rom

Harddrive / HDD

USB

Network

Basically means, Try CD rom if no cd then try the harddrive, if harddrive broke try USB if all else fails try Network.

It wouldnt suprise me if he set it to network boot and didnt change it.

You did check the BIOS and master/slave settings/DIP switches?
