Computer randomly slows down, CPU usage spikes?

At first I noticed this while playing an online game. Every few minutes it would glitch like crazy for about 30 seconds then speed up again...i figured it was the internet. Then i noticed my windows media player would skip while playing music, almost as frequently as the game would glitch. I use a CPU usage monitor on my sidebar, and the only unusual thing i notice about that every now and then when i open a program, it will spike to 100% and stay for a few seconds. At the same time I've checked my process manager and theres nothing using more than 8 or 9%....so where is the CPU usage going? Is that why my computer is randomly glitching? I've tried spybot, adaware, registry mechanic, disk cleanup, and defrag. Can anyone help?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7462 with a Turion 64 dual-core processor and 2 gigs of DDR2 SDRAM.

If it only happens while playing games, it is likely that your system is overheating. When it overheats, it slows down the processor (making everything lag) to try and cool down.

Since the processor is running slow the system also thinks the CPU usage is abnormally high, since it is running at a low frequency.

Try giving the vents a good clean out with a vacuum cleaner and a compressed air canister and see if that helps.

I have no idea how you are running two graphics cards, of different make and calibre? If it's true that you have two cards, take out the ATI 5450 it's terrible compared to the 460. Anyway what's probably going wrong is your graphics cards memory is being maxed out. A solution to this would be to either lower key settings on games such as Anti-Aliasing, or buy a new card with 2gb of memory. "(I have a three monitor setup)" I am 100% certain that your graphics card does not have enough memory. You'll need at least 2gb, maybe more depending on what game your playing. 1gb is simply not enough memory to run 3 monitors. Try playing on one screen or two and see how it goes.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.
