when i open my laptop i get this message on screen

"Smart failure predicted on Hard drive 0: HTS424040M9AT00 -(PM)

WARNING: Immediately back up your data and replace your hard drive. A failure may be imminent"

then i back up my files.. and search it on google, then they said that i can test my hard drive through its Hard drive self test and it should pass the "quick", "comprehensive" and "smart" and it failed BUT in the other day when i test it again it PASS all..

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?? its only a false alarm? and my hard drive is fine?

SMART is a diagnostic software on the disk that monitors the drive's performance. It watches for indicators and patterns of an upcoming failure, like an increasing number of bad sectors, etc. Basically, it can predict a failure.

Save anything you cannot risk losing!

I have always found SMART to be accurate, so do not delay, as you cannot know how long you have left.

That failed test says it all. The hard-disk is on its last legs. If your computer is under warranty, contact the maker. Else, tigerdirect.com is a good place to buy hard-drives for cheap.
