Memory-RAM.

If a 1.5G cpu and 256 ram isn't getting the job done, you might want to think of doing both upgrades along with upgrading your graphics card to one with at least 128 to 256 onboard mem. Doing just 1gig of ram or just upgrading the cpu will make you happy for a little while, but I would assume you have already tuned down your graphics quality in the game to run better on the system you have... Once you start tuning those back up, you'll be back to square one. Yes, it costs more upfront, but you'll be much happier in the long run with all three upgrades.

1GB of RAM will definitely help more than a new processor. Windows XP uses around 200MB of RAM with no other programs running. Once you run a game and it exceeds the amount of available RAM the computer uses virtual memory on your hard drive which is much slower. If you are gaming you should have a minimum of 512MB, 1 GB is preferable. Your processor has very little to do with the speed of most games.

You may also want to consider a new video card. The video card is a critical element of gaming.

Actually, you need a Video card with more memory in it, that will have the largest impact on your gaming experience, but more system ram never hurts, especially since you only have 256...thats very little by todays standards

Definitely more RAM - 1 or 2 Gig and a faster video card.

of course, increasing the capacity of your ram would mean more storage space for the programs running in your computer. this would make it easy for you cpu to access data it needs a lot faster. resulting in the overall increase in the performance of age of empire 3. you should also check if the speed of ram you will add has the same speed as the one you use. if they're not then you would be dealing with hardware problems in the future. ask help from an expert when installing the ram to make sure it will not hurt your pc. additional note: the speed of the ram is not the same to its capacity. 128mb, 256mb, 1gb, 2gb are examples of capacities. hope this helps. thanks!

Depends on the game, some times the video card will help some are memory intensive and while other relie on processor, some times nothing helps.

yes, the more ram you get into it the faster things will run, what else will help is a better graphics card (but of course this is strictly going on the thought of you running off of the graphics card that is on your motherboard and not one you bought an installed yourself

Ram, or the processor, both, or neither. It will depend on the game and what it depends on more. More info needed.

Its dependent on the system requirements of the game itself. Of coarse a fater chipset and more RAM will improve your system.

depends on the requirement of the game, but you'll do better to upgrade your RAM first..
