I have a windows XP Desktop computer and when i turn it on it is stuck on a black screen that gives me a few options such as restart with command prompt and restart in safe mode. i can only use my keyboard to move around the screen. This is because the computer froze for around 10 mins so i turned it off from the power button on the front of the computer. now its stuck in a loop.

Whatever option i choose it takes me back to the same screen, I do NOT have a windows XP disk as i have lost it and i am NOT able to get to my desktop.

Is there a command i can type in or something?

Please help me and give me solutions...!!!!

Hello, (ANS) What has happened is called a "Dirty shutdown" which means either some system critical files have been damaged or corrupted by what happened. As computers with XP are fairly complex in nature its unlikely that you will ever pin point the precise cause of what happened. SOLUTION:- Please use & apply the "LAST KNOWN GOOD" feature. OK! here's how to apply the last known good solution. No.1 Re-start the computer and wait until you see the windows XP logo appear on screen. (assuming you get that far of course, if the computer doesn't reach that point then this wont work.) No.2 Immediately after the windows XP logo appears press the F8 key once firmly (only once). No.3 Next you should see a Black & white screen this is normal and on this screen you should see various options. SEE last known good in the listing. No.4 Select the item "Last Known Good" & press enter (or the return key) using the keyboard. What this does is load the backup copy of the windows XP registry database, this contains ALL your machines settings. No.5 The machine should restart & load windows XP normally and it should take you to a normal login dialogue box & ask you for your username & password. You should be able to login as normal & the system should give you back a normal desktop with everything preserved and working. **If you are un-able to load the last known good copy of the registry then your final or remaining option would be to run a "non destructive repair of windows XP" this is also called an OS refresh. This is a re-installation of XP but there are No! changes to the disk (i.e. no reformatting of the disk) and no! changes to the parititions or the file system either. Only the missing system files are replaced & the registry keys repaired or refreshed. You MUST have the original OEM windows XP CD disk to do this, & you must have a valid product key, & you may be asked by Microsoft to re-activate your copy of XP too. **Hope this helps you? Sounds like you have a nasty virus on your pc so youu have to just go to the main menu of the computer by pressing F8 or F10 then it will take you to a blue screen with many options so in that screen hold down F11 key for about 30 seconds to a minute and that should get rid of the virus. If not than you have to take the computer to a computer repair shop.

When the computer reboots, press F8 repeatedly and on the options screen you should have an extra option to turn off automatic reboot. Then you should reboot and the reboot will stop at the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death!) that is causing the reboot with an error message and an error code. This is what we need to see what is going on.

First try unplugging all external devices (printer, usb devices etc) so that all you have plugged in is your monitor, keyboard and mouse. See if you get any further.

It could be failing ram, If you have more then 1 stick of ram installed take them out and put one in at a time, and see if one of the sticks is failing.

see it is not a hardware problem. it is a software problem that u installed recently. choose safemode and get in and uninstall it from add/remove program in control panel and restart in normal mode. if the problem not solved again start in safemode and restore to older days. the final thing is if u cant enter into safemode also the solution is formating and reinstalling. if u want more sugession kardevi143@yahoo.co.in
