My system specs are. Core 2 duo 2.ghz overclocked to 2.4, 8600gts 256mb of ddr3 memory, and 2 gigs of ddr2 667 ram, 32-bit xp system. I don't have the cash to get a new video card or anything. But i found a great deal on newegg, com, For 2 gigs of ram. Which are exactly the same as the ones i have in my computer for only 15 bucks with free shipping. If i got these two gigs would i see a performance increase when i play games? Would it load them faster and play smoother? I really need to know if i should get the other 2 gigs or not... If i get the 2 gigs would that help with the new games coming out such as protoype and cod6?

Absolutely no question you should do it although only 3.5 Gb will be recognized with your existing operating system. This would be a great investment.

You wouldn't really see any performance difference with more RAM. Games would not load faster (that's a HD issue). They would not play smoother (that's a CPU/Video card issue). Unless you're doing some serious video editing, you don't need that much RAM. Add on the fact that you're only running a 32-bit OS (which can only really use about 3.5GBs of RAM) and it seems like a pointless upgrade. If you had 64-bit Vista, it would probably be a good idea though.

Here is the problem... Windows XP can only address 4 GB of memory. Meaning that if you install tons and tons of memory, it will only be ably to use 4 GB total.

This does NOT mean that you can install 4 GB and use it. As part of the total memory, it includes video cards, onboard memory used for motherboard purpuses, ect...

Typically, if you nstalled like 4GB of memory on a 32-bit Windows Xp, it will read about 3GB and the rest will be wasted and may actually cause the system to slow down because of the extra, unused "space" or gaps in the unassigned memory.

This site might help too..

Windows XP only see 3gig of ram

Yes your computer may support up to 8gig only Xp or vista or windows 7 64bit will see and use ram above 3gigs

If you have two gig ,one more will not help that much in games,, but it will help a bit.. at that price I would get them anyway, Until you can get a better video card. Your main handicap is the video card has only 265mb,,, vcard with 512mb is pretty much a must now.

decent cheap cards

Monitor your memory usage during intense activities. If its close to 2gigs buy the ram, otherwise don't

To see ram usage just open task manager and go to the performance tab.

edit: don't listen to the poeple just telling you to buy more. If you never use more the 1.9 gigs then the extra 1.5ish gigs will never be used either.

Games would load faster, but not a whole lot faster.

Xp is not as memory intensive as Vista is, but you will still see a benefit from the increased RAM.
