On an EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) chip on the board itself.

On a motherboard/mainboard this would be called a CMOS (Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) chip, but I'm not sure if they have a separate name on plug-in/adapter cards.

Those are stored on the bios chip, of course.

The bios code on an adapter card identifies the card and provides information to the computer for use of the card.
