wont let me save essay on floppy disk.?

yeah im tryna save my essay on my floppy disk and when i try to it says cannot save file on floppy disk, please make sure it is not damaged or full. and it isnt because i just bought it today and i just checked it through my computer/floppy disk and theres nothing in there.

well, all the above answers contain a piece of good advice (well... almost); but noone has wondered "what if the file containing the essay is larger than 1.400 KB (or 1.44 MB) which is the maximum capacity of those obsolete floppies?



fortunately, there is a solution for this too: compress the file! use winxp's built in compression utility or a freeware (I suggest 7ZIP) to do this. if it still is too large, there is an option when compressing to split the resulting file to fit on multiple disks.

PS a flash drive is definitely a good piece of hardware, BUT have you thought at the fact that maybe the computer at their school can't read them (it's way too old, or has not the drivers)? alas, the floppies STILL are the most widely spread removable data storage devices.

Floppy disk is one of the most unreliable media so do not rely on them.. have you tried formatting the floppy, since you need to format them first before you can use them (though most reliable brands come pre-formatted from the factory) insert the floppy on the drive (check that the write protect tab is in the open stage.. you should be able to see through the hole).. now right click on the floppy-drive icon on your screen and select the format option.. try saving to the floppy after formatting is complete.. hope this helps. You mentioned that you checked your computer/ floppy disk.. you cannot physically check a damaged floppy disk unless you know exactly what you are looking for.. also *do not* keep the floppies near magnetic media since the magnetic field will corrupt the tracks in the floppy media

Check the little tab in the corner of the disk... is the disk locked?



Otherwise, it may need to be formatted. Just right click on your floppy drive and go to format.

this is 2007, not 1997. Spend 15 bucks for a 512MB thumb drive at walmart. Best investment you can make.

Have you formatted it? or is the write protect tab on?
