Hahaha ok well your first mistay was getting a millennium edition lol. Microsoft even came out in public and said that there was an infection in it and that they couldn't fix it in time. Try botting your computer up in safe mode. If that doesn't work right click start click open and then go find the folder through that way (if its on your desktop it works wounders) I would defragment your computer just incase it usually puts everything back into place and fixes the folders and also clean sweep helps run defragmentor better.

Try connecting the external hard drive to another computer with Windows 2000 or Windows XP. You can check if you can access the files. If these are corrupt, try searching the net for some software which can relieve you.

Permissions is more strictor when it comes to Windows 2000 or Windows XP. I am not too sure whether it would really matter about folders made in Windows Me.

I don't have Windows Me, do any of you friends using Windows 2000 or XP? If your external drive is USB drive, here's what you can do. Plug the drive in to one of the 2000 or XP system, then follow the steps that I give you last time:

1. right click on the folder and select properties

2. Click on the security tab

3. under the group or user names, and add "Everyone" make sure the give the Full Control Permissions

Permissions ? If you have different users or usernames it may not let you into those files , have you tried right-clicking on the folder, properties, permissions and looking what it says there ? or security tab ? etc..

on a side not, Windows Millennium is a horrible OS , you should look into XP.

Permission problems are typically seen due to access rights. You can log into your computer as an administrator and modify access permissions thru teh Control Panel -> User ICON. Once you give yourself the rights to read write all folder you should be set to go.

Did you back up your system, and when you reinstall a new Windows it asks you if you want to keep all folders. Of course you need to click yes. Always back your system up when making changes.

Try downloading some Read me files like MSN office, XL, WORD, and maybe adobe reader. See if that helps if not then got no idea lol.
