I am currently building a gaming rig and have some questions about memory. I have read that XP can only use 3gb of memory and wont use anymore after that. If this is so, then it would be a waste to but 8gigs of memory, correct? I'm kind of confused about this limitation thing as I am pretty computer illiterate. Some please explain...in lame mans terms =D!

4GB is the limit.

This will explain the ins and outs.

Windows XP 32 bit can only use up to 3.3GB, same with all 32 bit Vista editions.

Even 3 GBs is a waste. It wouldn't run any faster than 1 GB, but you can run more programs simultaneously without losing performance with 3 GB. I'm not even sure motherboards exist that can handle 8 GB of RAM. And you'd need Vista 64 bit to even recognize 8 gigs.

I recommend 2 gigs at the most

3 gigs if you want to show off

It be cheaper to buy a gaming computer than build one

just choose the correct graphics card, theres been a lot of graphic card questions here on answers, which is the better one.

As for the ram, it is limited by the specification of the computer motherboard.

If you put to much ram in then it just will not boot up.

Its not a question of using it.
