I'm working on building a computer for a friend of mine. He's needing something for image editing. I was thinking of just using the apple Imac standard "9400m," but I have an old 8600 gt Nvidia card sitting around.

Which would be better for image editing?

The 8600gt is the better out of those two cards. And no, the 8600 was not a good gaming card 3 years ago! A 7900gt 256mb which is an old card beat the 8600gt 512mb! So how can it be a good gaming card if the previous generation mid to high end card outperforms it

i do not know much about the 9400m, but the 8600gt should handle all image editing needs, along with minor animations. 8600gt was, at one time a good gaming card (3-4 years ago)

for basic image needs, it should do the trick.

They're both more than enough for image editing.
