one posibility is the monitor is 60hz and the computer is pumping out higher, you would not get a signal.

does the bios screen show at start up? if not then the bios may need to be adjusted to display from onboard first. you may need to borrow a graphics card to fix this =/

There are many possibilities.

Bad video cable, connection from back of computer to monitor is loose at one end, monitor could be bad, video chip on motherboard could be disabled in the bios, power cable to the monitor could be bad.

Those are just the possible problems regarding the chip and monitor.

Since you say this is a new computer, check the obvious first.

Be sure the monitor is getting power, should be a power indicator light on it. Make sure the video cable is connected securely at both ends.

Check the monitor by connecting it to another computer.

It is possible that the problem is with the computer, a certain percentage (hopefully small) of computers shipped will arrive with a problem.
