!!URGENT!! .lnk &.exe file error?

Hello, I, about five or ten minutes ago, was trying to get my link to the game spore to work, and I was not able to using what I thought were standard methods (i.e. double-clicking the .lnk file.). Consequently, I tried to find a program to open it with (important fact, when I got to the "open with" screen, the only recommended program was 7zip, and it was highlighted), but then realized neither did I have, or know of any such program to open .lnk files. However, after exiting the window(I might have pressed "ok" by accident to do so), all of the .lnk and .exe files. were set to open with 7zip. I figure that this is because that was the recommended program.I would like to know how to set the settings back so that the .lnk and .exe files open independently.
I would very much appreciate help asap, being as I am not able to close my internet window, as I will be unable to open it again.

You can only open compressed files, with 7Zip.

You need to go into your computer settings and under application or manage applications or something you need to look for program defaults and change them
