Trying to find CMOS battery in Acer Notebook?
2008-07-02 03:45:59 UTC
I have an Acer Aspire 9402 notebook. The CMOS battery is going on it and want to change it. Notebook in almost 3 yrs old, and no longer under warranty. Acer is totally useless in answering my request to a diagram. They want 445$ and have me ship it to CA. I can't find a diagram anywhere online. Can anyone help please?

Before you dive into a notebook, you need a service guide. Here's an image from one such service guide:

The RTC (CMOS) battery plugs into number 22. If you need to disassemble anything, see the rest of the 9420 service guide. I can't link to it, but you can find it through Google.

Hi, As with most PCs the CMOS battery on laptops is located on the mothyerboard. Unfortunately this means that to remove or replace it you will almost certainly have to dismantle the laptop completely in order to get at the battery. I have yet to find a laptop which gives quick and easy access to the CMOS battery. You may also find that your laptop uses a capacitor to maintain the BIOS chip in the event of the CMOS battery being removed. In this case you will have a very long wait for the capacitor to fully discharge.

Hey first remove your laptop battery on the either side of the battery slot the CMOS battery will be hidden. Just check and be cautious when you change it. You may result in damaging the wire that goes to the motherboard.
