Internal to external hard drive?

I have an internal hard drive that won't boot. I bought an external hard drive in order to recover those files/media from the internal hard drive to external but I'm not sure how to do this. Is there any cables, cords {(not software)} because I have no system to load a software on, besides my mouse driver also failed and I don't know how to fix it.
