A PCI-Express 2.0 x16 graphics card will work in a PCI-Express 1.1 x16 slot. There is a version of PCI-Express that is 1.1, and now the newer one, 2.0 Both versions have 16 lanes for data 'traffic'. 2.0 graphics card's are Backward Compatible. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pci_express (Scroll down to PCI Express 2.0 ) Your cpu draws a lot of power. Except for the monster graphics card you have in, it draws the most power. Do you have an adequate power supply? If it's a cheapie, it probably has 60% of the rated maximum wattage. For example, let's say it's a 500 watt power supply. 60% of that is 300 watts. 300 watts, and you're thinking you have 500! (Didn't need a calculator by the way. 100% of 500 is 500. Divide 500 by 10. =50 Now take that times 6, for 60%. =300. Yeah, I know, Whoopie!) You should check out the thermal paste, etc. (BE SURE to touch the metal frame of the case, before fooling with the cpu! STATIC 'kills' computer parts! Ram's not so bad. Has a thin layer of see-thru plastic on it, except for the gold plated pins on the bottom. Cpu tops are okay to hold, {case} Touch the pins, and you might have a expensive neck chain!)

Something wrong with you processor

Check the BIOS where your voltages are listed. There is a 3.3v rail...a 5v rail and 12v rail listed. Make sure the 3.3v and 5v rail are close to that spec. If your 3.3v rail is not getting good powere...say 3.0v or less or your 5v rail is dropping below 4.7 you may get that error. I have an Asus A7N8X deluxe with an XP2500 and was getting that error due to my power supply overheating. The fan had quit and after an hour or so it would overheat...reboot and give me that error.

this isn't related to the actual question, but PCI-Express 2.0 is the standard for the port. PCI-Express x 16 is how fast and big the port is.

Put some thermal paste on the CPU and make sure its in properly combined with the heatsink.

it is not the video card's fault. the problem lies in the cpu. no clue what it is though...sorry!!!
