Question:
Replace TV with big PC monitor?
2008-05-27 09:05:06 UTC
Seeking advise on how to do and what to buy... I only use my tube tv to watch videos. Would like to get rid of it and depend on my PC to take its place. Please offer advice on monitors and video cards (if I even need a special one). I'm prepared to spend for big monitor that I can still move around, good video and good sound. Please include your source of knowledge or experience. Thanks much.

You need a tv tuner card to be able to see tv broadcasts. There are independent cards, eg the "TerraTec Cinergy" or graphic cards with integrated tv tuners, like the "Radeon All-in-wonder".

You can use any monitor, no restrictions whatsoever. generally, like the tv card, the more it costs the better it is.

Analog tv broadcasts have a very poor quality, especially a low resolution, and may thus seem crappy on a high end pc monitor. see here for details:

The further away you are from the screen and the smaller the picture, the less noticeable it is.

Bad choice and stick with your tv. I connect my laptop into the LCD.
