What is the point of giving one word answers if we cannot say why?

Currently, I am leaning towards ATi (although I switch back and forth between the companies that have good cards at a good price). Even though Nvidia has the stronger video card, I find that ATi has a better price-performance ratio, and the DX11 is a nice touch (even though Nvidia is going to release some DX11 cards soon).

P.S., I had two 8800GTS in SLI but one of them died, unfortunately.

Ah, the GTX 295... the fastest card until the ATi Radeon HD 5970 was released today and trounced it badly... ATi is now King of the Hill by a 20%-37% margin. Honestly there's very little difference between the two. I prefer ATi because I get much more power for my dollar than I do with nVidia. At pretty much every price point, the ATi card will be stronger. Before I got my Radeon HD 4870 (Which has all the power and even a little more than the GTX 260 which is more expensive) I had 4 straight nVidia cards because ATi used to be the King and nVidia had the best value for the money. A TNT2, an Albatron GeForce FX 5200 128mb, an XFX GeForce 6200 and a Palit GeForce 8500 GT 1GB. Before them I had an ATi Super VGA Wonder and an ATi VGA Wonder. ATi's been around since the early 80s. I got my ATi EGA Wonder card in 1986. Back then, ATi made modems too...lol

Both release GOOD cards, i had ATI for a while and now Nvidia. ATi (imho) has a little better anti aliasing quality....but NVidia in general has less problems with compatibilty. GTX 275, GTX 285, GTX 295 are VERY good cards. I like what has the best features at the most attractive price at a given moment. Sometimes it's ATI, sometimes Nvidia.

I like the ease of updates and the software of the NVidia series.

Also NVidia is supported by Ubuntu Linux. It`s easier to get the 3D rendering working.

I went from ATI to NVidia and haven`t looked back. No problems at all. My old ATI cards seemed to have fans that got noisier and noisier.

I use an NVidia Geforce 280 GTX OC and is great performance for the money. It`s huge though. I also have another machine with an NVidia Geforce 9800 GTX which runs my Blue-ray movies just fine (as well as current games).

Nvida had some good cards the 8800 seres was top. ATI then had to have a cheaper card and at first they probably were (cheaper in parts). But now days ATI is king, they give you the best value for your money and are still great working Cards!

Just check out the benchmarks on ATI's newest cards.

i like nvidia, how ever now the new ati 5000 cards r beating most if not all nvidia cards in test & benchmarks, plus nvidia is a little more expensive, id just look more for price & performance at that time, if i was to buy a graphic card right now, id say ATI

They are very similiar, but Nvidia has a small edge over ATI. Ati might be cheaper though.
