I set up an ftp server at work here, forwarded the ports appropriately and tried the link i sent out by connecting to a vpn via outlook (pulling me off my internal network) and connecting to our public ip, logging in, and grabbing the file i'm trying to distrubute.. one of our reps keeps telling me all he's getting is a blank page. Am I forgetting something here? There's no IP blocking on the server.

THanks

Only one of them? sounds like a client side problem, since it sounds it works fine for everybody else.

his pc/terminal has something bad...or he is doing somthing wrong.

the only other option I can think is one of the servers on the route is down.

try to do a traceroute from the server to the rep pc, and from there to the server. (make sure your server wont block the traceroute)

'blank page' are you sure that he's trying to access it with something that understands the ftp protocol?

I hope that most browsers can do this, but if he didn't put ftp in the beginning then it could be trying to access your webserver instead.

Maybe your ftp bypassed the vpn somehow during a test, but you should be able to easily confirm that, especially if by 'one of our reps' means that you have more than one, and he is the only one having trouble.

I would test again, and if it works then perhaps give him a primer on what ftp is.

Since you mentionned a blank page I assume that this guy use a browser.

Give him the link

ftp://ip/exe

login:------

pass:-----

Years ago Microsoft prevented from using in the adress bar ftp links with user and pass in it.

Or ask him to use ftp on command line or in a terminal.

if yours works and theirs doesnt, does he have the FTP port blocked on their connection? did you enter their username into the FTP user file with a different password... is the file properly shared to all users.
