Anyone know what the problem is? I started playing a game that I usually play, and the game started to freeze every second. Colors started to appear and the game began to keep freezing constantly. I restarted my PC, and the colors were everywhere. I couldn't even log in Windows and I wasn't able to read anything on my screen. Everything was fine yesterday, but today it just happened randomly. Someone told me it was a bad driver build, and that I should use a driver cleaner. I used the cleaner and installed the latest graphics driver from nvidia, but it happened again. I uninstalled the nvidia graphics driver and now it is gone. I installed an old driver that came with my video card (8800GTS 320MB) and the problem is gone. I later on installed the latest one again and the problem occured when I got on a high end game (Dead Space). Anyone know how to fix this problem? I know that my graphics card is not dying and that this has to do with my drivers.

I would remove your graphics card and clean it..

use a AIRDUSTER to blow clean any dust that appears stuck to the card ,,, paying close attention to the main GPU heat sync and fan..

also check your PC internal fans and make sure all the air ways are clear. also once you have cleaned your graphics card ,, clean the contacts, and also use the air duster to clean your Card socket blow it free of dust.

reinstall the card in the PC and then re-install the latest drivers for your card if the fault keeps showing up at the windows level then it is more likly a faulty card.

good luck

Microsoft has said that Drivers might need to be Rolled Back--just like your complaint--that the older Driver works,,yet,,a newer Driver is failing..use the old driver/and try the newer driver later--it seems to have issues needing attention..I personally find Video Cards confusing--so I don't use one..I also don't play PC Games..but I think if the old Driver is sufficient--use it.

You "know" the graphics card isn't dying? How do you know this? Because it's sounds EXACTLY like a failing video card, NOTHING like a driver issue. Driver issues would rarely affect Windows, and it's unlikely a driver issue would affect multiple games the same way. Plus the fact i happens when gaming (ie when the video is stress) signals video card failure.

I agree with Mercuri. Your video card is failing/failed. However..this may be due to low power to the video card. Is your power supply correct? ( meaning is it qualified to supply to amount of power being used?) I'd double check by removing devices ( NICs etc) one at a time to reduce the amount of power consumed and try that.
