Disk Clean Up problems - Windows XP?

Hi, I'm trying to free up disk space on my computer [it's a Sony Vaio], and last night I tried the 'Disc Clean Up' tool, and it when scanning it wouldn't go past 'compressed files' or something like that. I decided to leave it all night and when I checked it this morning it was the exact same.

Does anyone know how I can fix this, or what the problem is?

Any help will be much appreciated. :)

There are many better tools to do this. One is CCleaner. I use this all the time. It is free and no spyware. It also has pretty high user rating. It does the job in seconds and cleans the junk files that xp's built in cleaning utility can't. U can download it from here: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/CCleaner_Crap_Cleaner/1100194579/1

or just google it.
