I am asking which is better a octa core 8 real cores or a quad core with hyperthreading.

Tech nerds say hyperthreading is better but I believe real octa core without hyperthreading is better than quad core with hyperthreading.

Please tell me if I am right or wrong.

And also tell me do I need hyperthreading If I already have octa core cpu.

A quad core with hyper-threading will process tasks on each core faster than that of an octa core. Basically the hyper-threading makes an 'additional' core per core but do not run exactly parallel to the core itself. Plus, nowaday games can use hyper-threading but may not use more than 4 to 6 cores as most computers, before generation 8, only have 4 cores with hyper-threading so the octa core will most probably only be 50 to 60 percent utilized in games. Other tasks like, video editting, may use all the cores but the quad core will still be a bit faster.

Hyperthreading only provides at most a 20% increase in performance. Both processors will have 8 threads. Therefore, the one that has more cores will win.

what are you using computer for? most games use only one core, so the question becomes moot ... cpu speed and gpu quality control outcomes

Crim Liar is pretty spot on. Having more cores would generally be faster, hyperthreading just makes it so the individual cores are better at running multiple threads.

But multi-core processing is very hard to estimate, because each program supports it very differently. Many programs still only use one CPU core. In that case the number of cores wouldn't matter at all, but rather the speed of the individual cores.

You always have to compare like with like.  So, in this case, you'd need CPUs from the same family but with the two different abilities to run side by side.  If everything else were equal a CPU with 8 cores and no hyperthreading should outperform an identical chip with just 4 cores and hyperthreading, but it's rare that everything else is equal!
