Question:
Black Screen After Startup of XP Because I Disabled Both ATI And VGA Drivers! please help!?

Okay here goes. I have an IBM ThinkPad (technichally the lenovo ThinkPad now it's on the Lenovo website and not IBM) Model no. T41 Running Windows XP S3 (or S2.5 but I'm pretty sure it's S3)

I recently bought the Sims2 and wanted to update my video driver/graphics or whatever you want to call it. I could see what I had by going to Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced and clicking on the Adapter tab. By doing this I could see that I had an ATI Radeon 7500 adapter and Sims wanted me to have the 8500 so I tried to download that and got an error message about not having the VGA adapter in use or something so I decided to enable VGA. Wellllll...

When that didn't work either I wanted to switch back so I went back into Display/Settings/Advanced/Adapter tab/ then clicked way down at the bottom to disable my VGA adapter thinking it would bring back my ATI driver.

WELL IT DIDN'T!

Instead it made my beautiful screen go blank. I'm now typing to you from my brother-in-law's minilaptop.

So I've tried to run it in VGA mode in the little configuration screens and such but this is where I get computer illiterate. I've also tried to run it in Safe Mode (which I feel that if only I could get back into a normal setup I could fix!) and it keeps jamming up with the screen involving all of the drivers with the last one showing as multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\agp440.sys

This is my latest problem! Any help on how to get through safe mode from here or just how to fix this crap in general would be fantastic. Also note: I have very very limited time and funds and I don't have an XP disc. If you think I could get one cheap or for free if it would help please let me know! Thanks in advance!

Safe mode had better feel commonly and completely, and not lose control of the situation by you

Boot normal and try Fn+F7 after it boots to see if the screen will return

Next try going into BIOS and setting it to Default:

____________________________________

Turn on the computer; then, while the message, “To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button” is displayed at the lower left of the screen, press the Access IBM button. The Rescue and Recovery workspace opens. If you are using the ThinkPad T41/T41p Series computer, double-click Start setup utility and go to step 6.

If you are using any other ThinkPad T40 Series computer, click Access BIOS. The System Restart Required window is displayed.

5. Click Yes. The computer restarts, and the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears.

6. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password. You can start the utility by pressing Enter instead of entering the supervisor password; however, you cannot change the parameters that are protected by the supervisor password. For more information, refer to the on-board help.

Press F9 and then Enter to load the default setting. Press F10 and then Enter to restart the system.

Last is Factory Restore:

_____________________________

Turn on your computer. Watch the display carefully. When the following message is displayed, press the blue Access IBM button to open the Access IBM Predesktop Area: ″To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button.″

Double-click Recover to factory contents.

Follow the instructions on the screen.

When the recovery process finishes, press Enter key. Your computer will restart with the pre-installed operating system, drivers, and software.

Unless you can get to Safe Mode or Factory Restore, or XP Repair Install you will have to re-install XP
