I am using a USB mouse. It doesn't work if I plug into the USB input of my computer. It can only work if I use an adaptor and plug into the PS2 mouse port. What should I do to make the USB input working? My motherboard is Asus P5VDC with Petium D CPU and my system is running Windows Vista.

Follow these steps to make sure drivers are installed for USB and if so to reinstall USB

Right Click My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager.Look for universal serial bus if not there get usb drivers for the board / if there make sure no yellow ? or circle with ! inside>uninstall USB devices by right click and unistall the device till Universal Serial Bus is empty or gone>restart the computer>let USB reinstall

Yes, I own a Mac and I was using some generic brand USB mouse from Walmart for a long time before I shelled out some money for a bluetooth wireless one.

Sounds like you are missing the drviers for the USB. If it doesn't work in the front, then the USB ports may not be connected to the motherboard. I would check the hardware configuration and see if the drivers are loaded for the USB bridge and USB ports.
