well, id have to say a mouse.
even though both devices don't require lots of bandwidth from your pc's interfaces to be used, some laser mice have 2k DPI and require USB ports in order to work.

A keyboard keypress or a mouse click will be about the same speed. Mouse movement will be processed more quickly as there is a higher level of data input to the port. So if you want to get sub-70 seconds on Solitaire use a mouse.

It really depends on how good you are on the keyboard. There's a lot of tasks that can be done on your keyboard opposed to your mouse that people aren't even aware of. For instance, copying and pasting. A lot of times in a document, it's easier to his "ctrl+c" to copy real fast and "ctrl+v" to paste. Or "ctrl+p" to print. Also, in a lot of web based forms or what not, it's a lot quicker to use your "tab" button to get from space to space instead of moving your hand over to the mouse all the time. Really, it just depends on how saavy you are on the keyboard. Some people have a hard time with that stuff or don't even realize all the things you can do.

One thing a lot of people don't know is that the keyboard can do everything a mouse does. tab will take you to the next line, shift/tab will bring you back up, alt/tab will go from window to window. ctrl/alt/del will allow you to turn off your computer. No techinal answer but a few tricks that I like.

technically the keyboard is faster, what isn't faster however is that you need to learn all of that keyboard techy stuff. so i'd stick to the mouse if i were you.
