I have someone who asked me: Hoping you can help me, no one else has been able to solve this problem. I have a Linux server (custom Mandrake platform) running a 2.6.24 kernel. The hardware is a Proware storage subsystem with an LSI MegaRAID 150-6 controller configured for RAID 5 with an XFS file system. The server boots fine and captures up to 200 multicast multimedia streams without issues, then at random times will lockup and stop recording. I have updated RAID card firmware, loaded updated drivers (modules not built into the kernel), updated the Kernel itself (to the latest version supported by the LSI RAID controller), changed cables, connectors, hard drives, NIC drivers (dual NIC system board) and even the systemboard itself yet the problem still persists. The only way to get it to start capturing streams again is to run an XFS repair, but in the process we lose terabytes of information.

I would recommend downloading a Hiren's bootcd (preferrably version 10.6). Burn it to CD or use a USB-drive. Start it up and run for: Dos programs => hard disk tools => HDD regenerator (out of my memory, so might be slightly somewhere else). This can check the hard drive for failures.

IF you changed ALL the active components... assume the error relates to software.

Re-install or re-set your anti-virus software(s) so things it has been told to ignore it looks at again.

(eg rkhunter and clamav)

While at "random" times it locks up and stops recording, you need search for anything events preceeding these "random" events with regularlity.

Time happening, time between happening, volume used and free, anything common prior to problem happening...
