Last night while playing a game on my computer (Minecraft) I was just minding my own business when all of a sudden I got a blue screen telling me there was some sort of error, ive heard many people call this the Blue Screen of Death. When it happened I turned off my computer & I said i would mess with it tomorrow. Well now Im back on my computer & everything seems fine but Im really scared it might happen again.
How can I stop it from happening?
Please help! My whole family uses this computer for very important things & we would lose so much if it crashed on us!

there is not much you can do other than using common sense, and backing up all your important files

These guys really aren't telling you much. BSOD is most often due to one of two things: imminent hardware failure, or viral infection. The FIRST thing you should do is start your computer in Safe-mode and do a back up of important data. This will protect you if your HDD is due for a crash. While you are in safe mode you should also run spyware/malware removal tools and do a virus scan. This will clear up the potential for viral infection as the cause of your BSOD. DO NOT bring your computer up normal mode until these steps are complete. After that you should be good to go. Cross your fingers and carry on with your day.

would be nice to know exactly what the error message said? How long have you been playing this game, Minecraft? you could try system restore but it may not help. could be a weakening video card issue.

Try booting in safe mode, F8 during boot start and see if you get the same problem in safe mode.

Blue screen of death appears when your machine is having some hardware misconfiguration or some new updates have been installed. Try to figure out the cause and get it solved.

As far as I know it cannot be prevented.

But you can recover with system restore to an earlier point and not lose much.

It has happened to me at least once on vista and that's what I ended up doing.

Hasn't happened on windows 7...yet.

Theres really nothing you can do, back up your files and hope it doesnt happen again. If you have upgraded any hardware, uninstall the old drivers.
