My problem is that I think windows Millennium is very slow sometimes when I play games. Is Windows Millennium not good for games or what. Or is it a lack of memory problem.
I have not the best computer, but I think it should work better.
My computer:
Celeron 400
128 SDRAM
GeForce 2 DDR (I have the latest driver from NVIDIA)
and a lot of disk space (HD)
What is the problem??? Any info is helpfull, becauce I dont have a clue.

1.Even DOS will run slow on that computer. It is circa 1999, ten years old Try a bit more ram. Install Windows 2000 or Win98 if you can find a friend or neighbour with an install CD. ME was the worst sytem Microsoft ever released, worse than Vista.

2.Playing games , modern ones, pushes computers to the limit even now. Sim 2 which is a pretty old game now needs an 800 MHz to 1.5 Ghz to run well plus a decent card. Upgrade if possible. $200 will get you a modern budget board and all you need to build a budget modern PC. The existing HD can be used but you'll have to install say XP. Any modern board and processor will run easy with XP. Even a cheap vid card like an old FX-5200 will run 10 times faster than a Geforce 2.

It might really be time to put that old machine out to pasture. But that is your call not mine. And I love old machines. You could always use it as a server for music and for friends to up/downlaod when you are not on-line. or put it in the trunk of the family auto in case they have to park on a steep hill? Or convert it into a fish tank or hamster cage.

You have several problems, no matter how old the games are You're trying to play ...

1st) The celeron processor is the cheapest and weakest of the processors except for the Via processors of the same time period. Those days really were the best tmes for AMD. You'd prefer at least a Pentium II (2), and Your motherboard should support up to a 600+Mhz chip roughly. Either could be found for under $15.00.

2nd) The amount of RAM in the system is under what WinME likes to play with. You should have at least 256Megs for WinME, and it will handle up to 512Megs.

3rd) The fact that You have "a lot" of hard drive space running under WinME. WinME only supports a hard drive partition of 20Gigs maximum, and it requires it to be a FAT32 formatted partition. Anything over 20gigs will not be recognizable by Windows, and files or info stored there will cause errors. Especially video swap (temp) files trying to use FAT32.

Last) Although I love WinME myself for all my old DOS days games, I now use it as a Virtual machine under WinXP Pro. this allows me to still access all my old software and forms and fancy paperwork I did back in those days without losing either the hardware or storage benefits of XP Pro.

Although Your system (barely) meets the requirements for XP Home without any service pack updates, I'd highly recommend plopping down a simple $65.00 plus shipping into a 2.4Ghz barebones and swapping the larger hard drive into it. And backing any files from the actual (used by WinME) 20Gigs onto a $6.00 flashdrive for use under XP/VMachine or onto CDR/DVDRs.

As far as fnding a copy of Win98 or 2000, don't bother Win2000 was dropped within a year of production for support, and most hobby users don't even touch it - while stuff for 98/ME can still be custom written and found on some archives sites.

You'll find such an enormous improvement in the games that you probably won't want to swap Your $55.00+ gaming graphics card into the new system either.

Just unplug the computer and back in a new system.

Your computer is over 10, it should not be working. Most of newest games will not run on this system.

Your memory could use a few new sticks. but you will buying used memory. You will be hard press to find new memory.

You are running Pentium 3, there is several increases in CPU field.

If you want, you can upgrade to XP. Now find a copy of XP, since MS has pulled it from selves.

The copy of XP will cost you $150 plus added memery other $50.00. Now you have about $200 in old computer. You can purchase a Wal-mart system for about $350 which included new keyboard & mouse and Vista installed. This system will run circles around your old computer. For other $100 you can add a flat screen monitor.

Plus your memory, cpu and motherboard will work faster. Larger hard drive will nice addition for large games. Down side on this deal, most gamers would like better video card.

Windows ME was a steaming pile of crap, but that's not your problem. Your problem is the seriously outdated hardware hardware you're using. If you stick to running software written in 2000, your computer will feel like a rocket. But running modern apps on a nearly decade old computer just ain't going to work out well for you at all.

I am not sure what games you are trying to play but if you are trying to play modern games your system is way outdated! Your computer is way out of date my friend, its time to upgrade to a new computer!
