If suggestion #2 does not do the trick ->

1st Make sure the card is seated properly in the slot.

2nd Remove it from the slot and put it a new slot.

Good luck!

Go to your contol panel-system-hardware-device manager and see if it is listed with a question mark. Most likely it is. Remove it from device manager and reboot. Then, when XP finds new hardware, use your installation disk. Many times Win(any version) will not properly load a device and the best thing to do is delete what it found and try again. It is also possible that you will only see an unrecognized devie - remove that.

In the future, when loading an OS from scratch, you might consider removing all of the extras like sound cards, modems, etc. to avoid this problem. You then put them back in one-by-one and load the drivers. Yes it takes longer but you avoid a lot of problems.

before everything, determine you have an set up disc it extremely is bootable, meaning that the pc could be began from the CD fairly the the confusing force as prevalent. while you're uncertain, you may examine via booting the pc with the CD on your disc force previously you reformat. while you at the instant are unable besides from the CD, do no longer reformat your confusing force considering the fact which you will no longer have the means to start the pc or set up application after reformat. as quickly as you're particular that your disc is okay, you're good to bypass. the only issues you will be able to desire to do different than it extremely is backup any information or courses which you extremely %. this might comprise distinctiveness gadget drivers which you have intalled. as quickly as you have made your backups you may start off.

That's a little odd but re-install the driver for the soundcard anyway. You can either go to the website of the sc manufacturer and download the driver software for the re-installation OR re-install and select Windows Update as source for the driver.

power down the computer UNPLUG the power cord open the case remove the sound card, power it up without the sound card, then shut it down again UNPLUG the power cord and reinstall the sound card, windows should reocgnize the new hardware added, then install the driver
