If the program takes up less than half the screen, click on the square button at the top-right of the program (the middle of the 2 little buttons). This will make the program take up the full desktop.
If the desktop takes up less than half the screen, you have to adjust the height and width of the monitor. How you do that depends on the monitor, but there's usually a button on the monitor itself that will get you into a little on-screen menu.

Right click on the desktop > properties. Open the settings tab and move the slider to the left to lower the resolution. Click apply. If that does not work, try re-booting.

Change your desktop resolution to something smaller, maybe 680 x 460.
Or if you're in Microsoft Word, click on the menu View, then Zoom, and make it bigger.
Good luck!!
