There's something you should know about a Windows Vista and earlier feature (removed in Windows 7) called Autoplay.

This is what makes your games, music and movies start automatically once inserted.

In your case, what I suspect is that your Autoplay settings have been messed up.

Right click the CD or DVD drive you used, go to Autoplay, select "Music Files", and check the checkbox that says "Prompt me each time to choose an action.".

If family members use this computer with you, tell them NOT to check the checkbox in the Autoplay dialog box that appears saying not to ask anymore, and that you've been very unhappy with them.

Good luck,

i think your cd\dvd-rom is getting old and you have to replace it.

but i advice that you have to install xp sp2 and not other versions because the problem sometimes could be out of operating system

If you could find a driver for it, then I would try to upgrade it to the newest one for XP
