I'm guessing it's most likely a driver issue. Make sure you install the proper drivers on your computer, otherwise it won't recognize the drive. you can get them from iomega's site:

https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/cci/subproduct.php?p_prod_lvl1=1&p_sid=EFie2tXh

next, do all the obvious things, like make sure the power cable is plugged in, and the drive is properly connected to the computer. if your drive has a power switch be sure it's on.

connect the drive while the computer is shut down. once everything is connected, start up the computer. if you look in "My Computer" there should be a list of drives, including the Zip drive (not sure what the name will show up as). you should then be able to put in disks, and read/write to them.

Ensure that you have connected the Zip drive (the hardware) correctly to your computer. Check the data and power cables to see whether they are securely connected. If you boot into computer, do you get any error messages?

Also check whether the drive is detected in My Computer. If it is showing up, probably the Zip disk that you have bought is faulty. Try to use the disk on some other computer with a Zip drive. Also ensure the read-only lock on the disk is not on. Try to move the slider either UP or Down and verify whether the disk can be read.

If it is an IDE zip drive, make sure your Master/Slave settings on the drive are set correctly. Usually you have to set that setting on the zip drive with dip switches depending on how you have it connect up in the IDE chain.

Does windows recognize the drive when you plug it in and if not did it come with drivers. It could also depend on your operating system. Windows XP shouldn't require drivers in order to use it.

What OS are you using? What brand is the ZIP drive? What exactly is the problem with it?
