I've already set up a package on dell, but just in case the dell promotion ends before my check clears, I've set up another one on newegg. I'm just going to be using the PC for music, Schoolwork, etc. No games or anything like that.

How is it? I might upgrade the graphics card in the future since GMA sucks. Everything comes out to to around $900. I'm not a PC builder, nor do I know how to build s set, so I'm only focused on PC packages. Any advice or critiscm is welcomed Thanks.

It will do fine for anything other than gaming with a decent video card it would do quite well at that too. It may be a bit over kill for what you want to do with it but it is quite future proofed, with the core duo 2 gigs of ram and vista, should do great, building your own would be more cost concious, but for a novice I see no problems. If you want to do some gaming try this along with it FYI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130286

Not too bad, since you're not playing games. I would get a slightly faster processor and possibly faster RAM and if you have a bit more dough, you could throw a better sound card in there (they're easy to install).

Probably a bit more than what you need, but this is a pretty good deal--I wish I would've found this before I built mine! I built mine from scratch and spent about the same, and this computer is faster!

Oh, and, don't get a system with Vista...at least until service pack 2 comes out. My dad owns a computer store and has tested the speed of both xp and vista. Even though vista runs 64 bit, can utilize more RAM and direct x 10, xp is predominantly faster--plus you don't have to worry about drivers.

Buy a HP or an Acer, if you don't want to build one. I've heard Acer's are decent and cheap (my dad's been selling thme for about a year, says they rarely have problems).

There's something to be said about building though, you know you're not paying for generic parts, you have a better chance of being able to upgrade and you gain an understanding about computers...it's not difficult...takes about 4 hours and is cheaper. Check this site: (www.mysuperpc.com).

Well.... I would never purchase a Gateway and the monitor you have chosen is a bit big unless you are going to mount it on the wall far from your face. I had two Gateways and both were garbage. The University I worked for blacklisted Gateway products because they were so badly made and so many were delivered that would not work.

Looks great. GO FOR IT.

As an alternative, you might visit your local COSTCO store. if you aren't a member, they will let you BROWSE, then just JOIN if you like something there. You see, Costco has an unbelievable return policy... it's WOW. They have HP and Gateway desktops that are pretty well packed. But YES, this NewEgg deal looks good.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Sounds captivating badass. yet i in my opinion haven't any theory how nicely portion of your stuff is. i've got no longer any theory what sort of updated hardware is obtainable interior the marketplace. My very final build was once in 2008. and many stuff appears like its converted provided that then including names. back interior the day, my athlon64 X2 6000+ , 4GB DDr2, 500GB HDD, and 512mb ATI3870HD was once maximum rational of the line. Now that is incredibly plenty a similar performance as a extremely-cutting-area basic Dell or HP compter. I merely dont have the money to construct a sparkling one and sick use my present one until video games are no longer supported on it.

Really not bad just put a nice graphics card in and your all set. Video Cards are real easy to install just watch out for ESD (Electro Static Dischrage or static electricity)

Looks good, about 8 out of 10 good. Don't use the AOL trial, that kills it down to a 5.
