Question:
New motherboard and hard Drive problems!?
2009-02-18 13:35:30 UTC
I installed a new mother board for my computer after my old one died. I was told I needed to re-install windows and so I attempted to. The computer froze right before it completed the installation. I tried booting it in safe mode to install the chip drivers for the motherboard but the drivers would not install. I decided to just start on a new Hard Drive and get someone to help get the data off my old hard drive later. I ran into the same problem when I tried to use the new hard drive, when installing windows. I let the installation go for two hours in it's frozen position and nothing happened. Can anyone help me with this problem?

...Would help if I had your motherboard model, as all chipsets vary.

Use nLite to create a custom installation CD with the compatable SATA drivers, since Windows sometimes can load the setup process but not write to disk. Also can be done by floppy disk, and by pressing F8 when it says, before the actual setup begins. ( "Press F8 to load external disk driver now" or similar )

If that does not work....

Double check SATA connectors, and make sure they're in SATA0 and not in RAID, go into your BIOS and disable any advanced options or reset to optimal if possible, should work then if it's a configuration problem. One common thing in newer boards is they have "auto-configuration" or "auto-balance" in their BIOS settings, can your board have changed the SATA spread frequency/PCI-e frequency?

Double check PSU and connections as well, in case you need an extra 8 pin 12v power connector as most boards do..

You may need to make a floppy disk (or USB drive) with the motherboards SATA/RAID controller drivers, and load these during installation (press F8 when prompted).

Sound weird and wonderful even with the shown fact that it occurred to me final time. precisely an identical. once I replaced each thing (playstation ,MB,CPU and RAM) i got here across that changing the Heatsink solved the undertaking. i ought to load the BIOS and computer screen the CPU temp it is known stable and funky yet by some ability it wont flow extra after placed up. the laptop close it self off actual till now it lots the OS, no longer even attain the F8 show screen. Believed or no longer, it replaced into the main unearthly element ever to me. The heatsink is defective. And form new Heatsink isn't a assure. best for you is to have 2d laptop to attempt.
