You need a phono input in your receiver or a phono pre-amp (earlier than hooking as much as receiver)... This is as a result of RIAA usual ... RIAA equalization is a specification for the correct playback of gramophone documents, situated by using the Recording industry organization of the united states (RIAA). The motive of the equalization is to permit higher playback instances, toughen sound quality, and to limit the vinyl damages that will otherwise arise from recording analog files without such equalization. The RIAA equalization curve was meant to function as a de facto global enterprise general for the recording and playback of vinyl records given that 1954. However, it's close to inconceivable to claim when the change really took position. RIAA equalization is a type of preemphasis on recording, and deemphasis on playback. A record is cut with the low frequencies lowered and the high frequencies boosted, and on playback the opposite occurs. The result is a flat frequency response, but with noise such as hiss and clicks bobbing up from the outside of the medium itself a lot attenuated. The other major benefit of the approach is that low frequencies, which might in any other case rationale the cutter to make gigantic excursions when reducing a groove, are much lowered, so grooves are smaller and extra can fit right into a given floor discipline, yielding longer playback instances. This additionally has the improvement of casting off bodily stresses on the playback stylus which might otherwise be tough to manage with, or motive unpleasant distortion. ... Backside LINE ... Phono pre-amp is required for vinyl playback .. Tapes, CD(s), IPOD(s) ... Don't want this. Some report avid gamers have "built in" phono pre-amps ... Others don't ... Then you must purchase one with a view to play vinyl.

Assuming you have Windows Vista / 7, right click the speaker on the bottom right of your screen on the task bar, click recording devices, right click your microphone, select properties, go to the levels tab and turn the volume up.
