Problem caused by a hard disk drive error

Windows was temporarily unable to read your hard disk drive. We do not know the exact cause of the problem. In most cases, this type of condition is momentary and does not indicate a serious problem, but sometimes it means that a hard disk is failing.

Common causes of this problem

Aging or failing hard disks. To prevent file corruption and data loss, we recommend that you back up all of your important files and folders immediately. See Step 1 in the Troubleshooting section below for more information.

Large file transfers from secondary media, such as an external hard drive, to a local hard drive.

Loss of power to a hard disk drive that causes inconsistent data sectors.

Hard drive slowness caused by disk-intensive processes such as antivirus scanners.

Recently installed hardware that might have compatibility and performance problems.

that poped up. well, when i sent the error thing, cause it had a message when i got home about it, and i restarted it and did the report thing. it worries me, cause the only thing between this computer and my last one is my printer is the same. i disconnected it a few days ago. what could cause it? is it a virus, or do i just need a new computer(can't get one...) or is it something i'm doing? idk. the most i download is music, but it's a legit site. and i didn't do that before with the other one anyway. i don't know what i should i do. help please?

Worst case is exactly what Windows tells you, the disk is starting to fail. My first advice is backup any critical data immediately before trying anything.

It could be a vius, but not as likely and easy to eliminate. If you have a virus scanner, ensure it is up to date then perform a system scan. Use the Kaspersky online virus scanner for free to check if you don't. It usually has the highest detection rate.

But the most likely cause is something going wrong with the hardware.

1. Check the disk using scan disk which is found under the tools tab when you right-click - properties on the drive in question.

2. If you are competent lift the lid (after disconnecting from mains) and check the hard disk connections are ok. Remove and replace will solve minor problem with the cable. Check both ends and also the power supply cable.

3. Maintain current backups as always even if you never see the message again.

4. Continue to use your PC as normal and see if it happens again. It may become more frequent if the disk if failing, If it does continue you will need to sort something to prevent unexpected data loss. If it is new and under warranty make use of it. If it is older then maybe it has reached the end of it's life.

5. Replacements drives are cheap and easy to fit, just get it swapped if it does continue to give trouble.

Whatever you do, backup!

First of all, it is pointless sending in a report to Microsoft. they are not going to bail you out or send you an answer.

Your Hard Drive is probably very badly fragmented or at capacity.

To check how full it is:

1. Open Windows Explorer (Windows Logo key + "E")

2. Right Click the C drive. Go to Properties.

3. A pie graph will show you your remain and used space.

If it is full, you need to :

1. Clean out the garbage. Use EasyCleaner by Toniarts (free). It does a good job.

2. Uninstall unnecessary programs. Use Control Panel.

3. Make a search for all .TMP files. Erase all of these.

To Defrag: (AFTER you clean out all the garbage)

1. Open Windows Explorer

2. Right click of the C Drive. Properties

3. Tools

4. Defragmentation.

"Why might anybody make a prediction approximately whatever, if it ain't going to be real?" Well, all predictions of those type are made up. The finish of the arena has generally been expected one hundred occasions in trendy historical past and but the arena hasn't ended but. There may be the prediction that the arena will result in December 2012, although this notion arose from the Maya lengthy depend calendar which in truth says not anything approximately the tip of the arena, it is simply the tip of an excessively lengthy cycle earlier than it begins all over again. Psychics make many predictions, however psychic powers aren't truly, they lead them to up as a slightly handy method to rip cash off of men and women. So there's not anything to fear approximately, it is simply going to be a common day like another.
