It wont turn on. I have a new laptop now. Am I able to put the hard drive into my new comp? I assume it can't be that easy..but a girl can hope!

OLD SMASHED LAPTOP - 2005 hp pavilion dv2000 [5400RPM Serial ATA drive]
NEW LAPTOP - satellite L505D-S5965 [250GB 5,400rpm drive]

Please help :( All of the photos and videos I have of my son after he was born are on it.

Yes you can restore your data... using kind of softwares I don't think for sure you will get 100% of data, but you will get respectable results Now Your FIRST Step must be not to WRITE any thing to the formated Hard Drive You need a Program called "Final Data NT", and try also after the first one "Easy Recovery", they can restore you lot of files. I don't know where they are sold in your country, but i think there is a trial versions of these programs to be tested first.

You can remove the hard drive from your smashed laptop. However, transferring the data to a usable form is probably beyond your expertise. I would recommend that you remove the hard drive - not all that difficult - just turn the laptop over remove the cover screws and slide the hard drive out. If you attempt to put it in your new computer, chances are it will not boot. Take it to a repair shop for recovery.

Purchase an External 2.5" Laptop SATA Hard drive Enclosure. Install your old laptop hard drive and then connect it to your new laptop via the USB connection. You can now recover your photos etc.

Good Luck

i always take out my old hard drive to check and slot it back again, it hanged a lot.

later it dies and i change a new hard drive then i save the trouble.

Just swap the hard drive, very easy.

for my laptop, there is a strap attached to the harddrive so easy for me to pull out.

Just be careful with the pins, dun bend or break them.
